I wanted to run some things by you regarding post-implant progress. I have had major swelling and congestion, due largely to humid, hot weather and my Vasomotor Rhinitis/Postnasal Drip. It was impossible to fall and stay asleep, until I started using Sudafed, and mucinex and Rhinocort AQ again. This seems to be helping the past few days, although I hate the Sudafed jitters.
I will try Xyzal again tonight to see if it is as effective as Sudafed; I can't say I ever noticed real effects, as I don't even have any allergies according to tests. I don't know if allergy meds are supposed to be effective in treating Vasomotor Rhinitis and Postnasal Drip...I guess I am just sensitive or "allergic" to normal things like temperature and weather changes.
The thing is, even when I get sleep, I always wake up exhausted with a massive headache and feel groggy all day, like I have been tossing and turning all night. Whether or not I use breathe right strips, I end up mouth-breathing on my back and wake with a dry mouth and throat. Maybe I will try sleeping sans BR strips now that I am on Sudafed.
I have signed up to get another sleep test, on advice of a local sleep doc I went to see because of this exhaustion. I had a sleep apnea test done pre implants and it showed just mild apnea. I had been snoring somewhat again, too. I am also getting a dental appliance to prevent bruxism. I hope I can even wear it, since I end up mouth-breathing.
All this will hopefully happen within the next few months. I don't know if CPAP will work this time, since I detested it before. I do feel like my sleep is pretty useless, since I wake up feeling much worse for hours than when I went to sleep.
I read about Provigil in the Economist and was wondering what you think. I have been trying to get off all meds (as much as possible), esp. ambien (causes hangovers for me) and drying allergy meds, etc. But my exhaustion just won't subside no matter how well I am doing, it seems. I have felt this way for ages and is one of the reasons I got my initial turbinate surgery. I actually asked the sleep doc if I could try it, but he wanted to do all the sleep tests and for me to practice with dental appliance and CPAP first. Since it is made for narcolepsy!
I am a zombie!
Gratefully,
Erika
