No. not hi tech at all.
A moderator has a few tools which a regular user does not have:
like the ability to delete, cut, edit or move singular posts (of others) from a thread, or complete threads from one forum to another and the ability to post sticky posts or announcements. The tools become available to you automatically when an administrator makes you moderator. Of course every administrator has also the powers of a moderator even if not appearing as a moderator.

It simply requires understanding and agreeing on the main goals of this board, applying common sense and good judgement in making sure that users respect the rules and regulations and that the forum sections are kept neat and tidy.

Special attention should be given to the fact that most ENS sufferers are sleep deprived, scared, depressed and short tempered. This can lead to a range of extreme emotions and much confusion in the way they express themselves.
A good moderator should be able to apply good judgement when to intervene and when not. Much of this work can and should be done in private. But, in my experience most of the time these things take care of themselves as a person usually finds here comfort and support amongst other sufferers and calms down pretty fast, with logic and rational kicking in.

Three things that should not be tolerated at all:
- Risking slander. Like settling scores with your surgeon in public, using full names.
- Using this board to promote personal interests or believes, not related to ENS. Like religious preaching.
- Using profanity.

Special attention needs to be given to new users. To greet them and encourage them to use the archives to come up to speed with the different discussions and see if many of the issues they are concerned about have not been extensively discussed before. This applies especially to Dr. Houser's forum section.

Of course, as this is quite an active forum, of an average of 7 new posts every 24 hours, there is need to visit the forum on a daily basis, at least once a day.
